The Dish: Fast As Lightning

Author: Christopher Harris

This Friday, Justin Gatlin broke the 100-meter world record with a time of 9.76 seconds. While the track and field world holds its breath hoping no BALCO-style disaster drowns out the excitement, let's talk about what else in sports takes 9.76 seconds.

Barry Bonds can only pop half his back pimples.

Ken Griffey Jr. can stay healthy; but no longer than that.

Ricky Williams can sing the entire chorus of "Legalize It."

Don King can just barely find his keys in his hair-wallet.

Larry Brown can only get a third of the way through his latest whine about Stephon Marbury.

Aaron Rowand can break three body parts on three different walls.

A-Rod can allow seven Red Sox grounders between his wickets.

Terrell Owens can do 15 sit-ups on his driveway. Herm Edwards can walk out on three half-finished jobs.

Anna Kournikova can lose a tennis match.

Danica Patrick can make 100 guys feel bad about themselves.

Jesse Jackson can do 17 grandstanding interviews about the Duke lacrosse scandal.

Kellen Winslow Jr. can pop six wheelies, and crash on three of them.

Tony Stewart can eat five donuts.

I can alienate the entire planet Earth.

What was the net result of the Kentucky Derby? Did you guys have Barbaro as the winner? Was that a good result for the books?

Greg Jorssen, BoDog.com: We had a fantastic Kentucky Derby over at Bodog. While we were ecstatic to hear that overall betting on the Kentucky Derby increased almost 14% over last year, Bodog broke records in our Racebook with 150% growth over last year. We did end up with Barbaro as the post time favorite at 5-to-1, but we juggled Brother Derek, Lawyer Ron and Sweetnorthernsaint all in that position at some point throughout the day. It was a good day for the book, as well as for Bodog members. We paid out a $2 trifecta for $11,418.40 to one player and another who nailed the Super for over $29K, who we spoke to shortly after the race, and to say that he was ecstatic would be an understatement!

Will interest in the NBA playoffs diminish without the Lakers to kick around anymore?

GJ, BoDog.com: California represents the biggest state in terms of handle and bettors, thus not having the Lakers around will have somewhat of an impact. That said, L.A.'s other team is generating a lot of the attention with these bettors. The second-round matchups are incredibly exciting anyway, and will keep people watching the playoffs and forgetting Kobe in no time. The Dallas/Spurs series is going to be an epic battle, as the first two games have already shown. I foresee this one going the distance. As for the East, I don't think the Cavs will put up too much of a fight against the mighty Pistons, and should be the first series to wrap up.

What's your reaction to Barry Bonds eclipsing the Babe?

GJ, BoDog.com: Yawn. Cheater. Next topic. :-)

Do you have any idea why most online books put NASCAR head-to-head odds online so late? It's usually not until late Sunday morning where I can find a reliable set of head-to-head odds from which to choose.

GJ, BoDog.com: The main reason for the lateness of the lines is due to the books waiting on where the racers are positioned and the results of the qualifying laps. Someone that has pole position would be favored over someone that is a few rows back, so sorry, you are simply going to have to wait until race day to place some of these head to head bets!
